In 2006, a group of friend’s set off on a 103-mile cycle ride from Cossington, Leicestershire to Brancaster Staithe, Norfolk to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer relief. They were inspired to raise funds following the diagnosis, and subsequent successful treatment, of a friend’s four-year-old daughter with Leukemia. The total raised exceeded all expectations and with a party afterwards, the event was a resounding success. No future plans were set at that time but the riders were back in strength two years later when another young family friend was also diagnosed with Leukemia, who was again successfully treated at Leicester Royal Infirmary. Another fabulous cycle ride and celebration at the Jolly Sailors in Brancaster Staithe ensured that the ride would become a regular event. As the participation of the ride has grown each year (65 riders in 2006 to 505 riders in 2013) a number of charities have been supported and over £950,000 has been raised directly from the ride.

This year we are delighted that the Century Cycle Challenge is supporting STEPS and we would like as many people to enter and raise money for our charity. The start and finish is at Nevill Holt, Leicestershire and participants can choose from three distance options - 100 miles, 50 miles or 25 miles in the hope that this will encourage even more adults and children to take part. There is also an after ride party in a marquee where families and supporters alike are most welcome.

Registration is on line via the web site at www.centurycyclechallenge.co.uk and the closing date for entries is Tuesday 18th March 2014
